Photoshop Elements vs Photoshop

I have never used Elements so I asked Photoshop GPT for the differences. This was its reply.

Photoshop Elements

Best for: Beginners, hobbyists, and casual users

Key Features:

  • Simplified interface with guided edits for common tasks like removing backgrounds, retouching portraits, or creating collages.

  • Automatic features powered by Adobe Sensei AI (e.g., sky replacement, one-click effects).

  • Includes Quick, Guided, and Expert editing modes.

  • The license enables you to use Photoshop Elements for a full 3-year term. It’s a one-time purchase with no additional fees. The license is non-renewing — it expires 3 years after redemption. When your 3-year term license expires, the Photoshop Elements Editor will no longer be accessible. However, you'll still be able to access your media catalog in the Elements Organizer indefinitely.

  • Lacks support for complex editing (e.g., smart objects, full masking tools).

  • The icons and menus are a subset of Photoshop’s. In learning Elements you are on your way to learning Photoshop.

Limitations:

  • No CMYK support (for professional print).

  • No smart objects, advanced masking, or pen tool.

  • Fewer filters and no access to the Generative AI tools like Generative Fill.

  • Not suited for high-end professional or print workflows.

Adobe Photoshop (Full Version)

Best for: Professionals, advanced users, and creative teams

Key Features:

  • Full access to advanced tools: Layers, masks, smart objects, pen tool, and adjustment layers.

  • Includes cutting-edge Generative AI features (e.g., Generative Fill, Generative Expand via Adobe Firefly).

  • Full compatibility with CMYK, 16-bit, and professional color workflows.

  • Integrates with Adobe Creative Cloud apps (like Illustrator, Lightroom, and XD).

  • Frequent updates and cloud sync.

  • Subscription-based via Creative Cloud.

I found a mistake in Photoshop GPT’s analysis, which I corrected. Please take this with a grain of salt.
