AUTHOR, JOURNALIST, SOCIAL WORKER. These are the major professions in
my life. However, I have formerly been editor of a nonprofit journal and popular
magazines, partner and vice president of a film production company, columnist,
lecturer, professor, media consultant. CURRENTLY, PRESIDENT of ACORN T0
OAK PUBLISHING CO, INC. AND AUTHOR of a comic book series on health &
social subjects: both humor and service about a wealth of subjects two of which will
be published CD form in 2004. at http://www.acorn2oak.com or for e-mail comic
books@acorn2oak.com.. Currently, originator of the American Society of Journalists
and Authors Publishing Program, resulting in a favorable contract with iUniverse, a
print-on-demand company.

COLUMNIST: CURRENTLY columnist with an Internet column "Computers, Etc. For
Seniors" at www.nypc.org then nypc Bytes. Formerly, columnist for two years for the
daily Springfield (MA) Union-News with a column called Creative Aging reaching the
over-fifty readers. Formerly, child-care columnist for Redbook Magazine, and
syndicated columnist for some Newhouse Newspapers.

formerly to Child Welfare League of America, China Information Center -- 1988-89,
l980 White House Conference on Children and Youth, Family Service Association of
America.

HUMAN SERVICES PROFESSIONAL: graduate - Smith College School For Social
Work, practitioner in social agencies and hospitals, certified New York State. The
University of Minnesota has my archived tapes (938) and papers (250,000) which
include an oral history of older social welfare leaders, a very large quantity of both
historical and fairly current data on children, children's rights, child development,
family situations and relationships and many social issues

AUTHOR, LECTURER, EXPERT ON CHILDREN/FAMILIES: formerly, Family Life
Consultant for Family Service Association of America for seven years; authored
seminal 1974 book -- the second book on child abuse and the first on society's
abuse of children, the first to use real names and pictures, LET'S STOP
DESTROYING OUR CHILDREN which has just been republished as a paperback
with a 100 page update comparing conditions for children THEN AND NOW She
also chaired the First National Symposium on Children's Rights; was a panelist on
Amnesty International's First U.S. Human Rights Conference. In a special Institute,
she taught Child Advocacy and Children's Rights courses at City University of New
York. Shirley Soman is the author of other books for families, such as PREPARING
FOR YOUR NEW BABY. Keynoter, speaker, seminar/workshop leader for
professional, parent/child and aging audiences.

MANAGER: formerly, partner/vp of Associated Film Consultants/Mercury Newsfilm
for six years.

MEDIA: many interviews by and quotes in the press, radio/TV appearances (over
100); selling own articles to newspapers and magazines (over 600).

PUBLIC SERVICE VOLUNTEER: Originated, chaired and served on many
committees, chaired large conferences and forums, served on three Boards of
Directors -- The NYC Creative Arts Rehabilitation Center; Public Action Coalition for
Toys; currently Childsavers, Inc. concerned with prevention of domestic violence,
including child sexual abuse. Also was member, New York City Health Department
Injury Prevention Consortium and subcommittees on injuries and on violence.

MEMBER: Many media organizations (American Society of Journalists and Authors,
National Association of Science Writers, Society of Professional Journalists, the
Deadline Club, National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Authors Guild)
plus National Association of Social Workers, Academy of Certified Social Workers,
NY Academy of Sciences, National Women's Health Council.
