Creating Faux IR

Open any RGB photo.

Perform any tonal adjustments to the photo; RAW, (levels or curves).

Create a Channel Mixer adjustment layer.

In the Channel Mixer Dialog box:

  • Check the Monochrome box.
  • Set the Red slider to 200%
  • Set the Blue slider to -65%
  • Set the Green slider between -35% and +50%.
  • Play with it.

Save the adjustment layer.

Give the image "an IR like glow":

Create a duplicate of your background and apply a moderate Gausian Blur to it. (You will have to experiment with the radius control, the setting will depend on your image resolution and how much of the effect you like try 3 - 20 pixels.)

Set the new layer's blending mode to Overlay and lower the opacity to taste.
