Introduction to Digital Photography Using PicasaWeb Albums |
You can upload albums to the web to share with others.Select the album you want to upload. Right click on the album name and select Upload to Web Album. You will be asked if the album is to be public or unlisted (private). You will also be asked what file size to upload. |
|
Public or Unlisted |
|
| Public Web Albums | May be viewed by anyone who knows your public web gallery address. These galleries can be found by search by name of keyword. Your public web album address: |
| Unlisted Albums | These do not appear in your public gallery; only you can see them on your My Photos page. Unlisted albums have an Authorization Key in the web address (or URL); the key is a combination of letters and numbers which make the URL very difficult to guess. Since no login is required these are not truly private, only hard to find. They are not included in search results and the key makes them very difficult to find without being invited, i.e. being sent the URL. |
Album Upload Picture Sizes |
|
| Small 640 Pixels | The smallest size will upload quickly and will look good on screen. But it cannot be used to make a nice print or as a screensaver. |
| Medium 1024 pixels | The medium size will produce an OK print at very small sizes. It is fine for a screensaver. |
| 1600 pixels | The large size will produce a good medium sized print. It will take the longer to upload and download. The person viewing it may have trouble seeing the whole picture at one time depending on their machine's settings. |
| Original Size | Depending on your camera these photo files may be HUGE. They will take by far the longest to upload and download. The person viewing it may have trouble seeing the whole picture at one time depending on their machine's settings. |
Size Considerations |
|
The smaller the image the smaller it will be onscreen and the less detail the photos will have. The larger the image the longer the up and download times. This can be a big problem for people who use dial-up Internet access. The two larger sized photos may not show up correctly on some screens. If you choose to make your albums public, it is very easy for people to find and appropriate your photos. Therefore I recommend you only use the 640 size for public albums. You may want to you the same album under different names in different sizes so that friends and relatives could pick the size they want. If you want friends and relatives to make their own high quality prints,, or order them online, use one of the two larger sizes. |
