Introduction to Digital Photography Using Picasa

Where Picasa Stores Photos

Picasa and many other graphics programs
call copying photos from the camera or card "importing".

Picasa Menu
From the Picasa Tools menu select Options

Save imported Pictures In
This will show you where Picasa is saving the images it moves to your hard drive.

Normally this will be set to My Pictures within My Documents. You can change this to any folder on you hard drive using the Browse button.

The set here is Picasa's "default" folder. Unless you specify otherwise any folders Picasa creates will be within the default folder.

When Picasa "imports" photos it will prompt you for a folder name. to save the folders in. You can use a descriptive name, like "Picnic July 2008", the date you too the photos, or something else that makes sense to you.

Before creating folders with Picasa think through an organizational scheme that makes sense to you.

Picasa will help you find all your photos, but if you go on and use more advanced photo editing software it will be much easier if you know how your files are organized.

Picasa can also include files in it's library
that are not within the "default" folder structure.

You may have pictures in other folders on your hard drive(s) that you want to inlcude in the Picasa Library.

Doing this is really beyond the scope of this class. But I will show you where to find the settings in Picasa and how to set them.

Picasa Menu
From the Picasa File menu select Add Folder to Picasa
