Introduction to Digital Photography Using Picasa

Finding Your Photos

Picasa, and most other photo related programs call the process of
narrowing down the photos you are looking at "filtering".

Think of pouring apple cider
through finer and finer filters
to make clear apple juice.

Using several filters can help you find one photo out of thousands,
or narrow it down to just a few.

Some filtering is based on automatically generated criteria,
like the date the photo was taken.
Assuming your camera's clock is set correctly.

However, most other useful information must be added by hand.

This is why folder names, and the place and descriptions you use can be important.

The more thought you put into putting useful words in your descriptions
and the way you split your photos into separate folders,
the easier it will be to find them later.

Picasa Filters

Each filter can be used alone
or in conjunction with other filters.

The green status bar shows you whenever a filter is active.
It contains the Back to View All button.

Note
If your monitor is sett to 600 x 800 orless (unlikely)
the text on the status bar may not display correctly.

The Star Filter Shows photos that have been assigned starts.

The Up Arrow or
Upload Filter
Shows photos that have been uploaded to web albums at least once.

The People
Filter
Shows photos which Picasa thinks contain faces.

The Movie Filter Shows videos that are being stored in Picasa

The Date Range Slider

The default position is all the way to the left, show photos regardless of date.

As your move the slider towards the right you will only see newer and newer photos.

On the right side of the green status bar you will see the date criteria change as your drag the slider.

Keyword Search Type in one or more words and press the magnifying glass. Only those photos which are in folders that match your keywords will shown.
